Our first baby was born on February 6, 2008, sharing the same birthday as her cousin Chelsey Taboy! She came in at a whopping 8 lbs, 4.2 ozs and measuring 20 1/2" long! At my 36th-week appointment, she was already 6 lbs 9 ozs. At my 38th-week appointment, I was already 2 cm dialated and her head was already in a low position that my doctor mentioned that I could deliver as early as Monday (February 4), although my due date was February 13. He suggested inducing due to her size.

After feeling 4 hard contractions, I told my husband I was ready for the epidural. I can't imagine going through the entire labor without it! I was even able to finish up one of my tumbler quilts from 2004 while in labor (quilting and 2 1/2 sides of the binding were done - the edging was quite tedius that I only could work on it inches at a time in the past). I ended up calling the quilt Marina's a Golden Pig due to the fact that she was born during the Chinese Year of the Golden Pig - golden because this designation only occurs once every 60 years. Several of Mark's coworkers are Asian and there was constant talk of whether Marina will be born a pig or a rat! Well, she does snort a lot (very cute sounds)!

No complications from the birth - Marina showed signs of strong health. In fact, the birth went so smoothly, I commented I was ready for 10 more babies (surprising both Dr. Edwards and my husband)! Marina has shown that she hates baths and changes (diapers and clothes); but she loves those long onesies!
